We are so excited to attend the National Down Syndrome Congress 2026 Convention in July. We will be there as Exhibitors and we are so happy Phoebe was selected to teach a workshop at the Youth & Adult’s Convention. Here is some Q&A with Phoebe on her workshop:
Q: What will you be teaching this July?
A. I will be teaching a workshop on Encouraging Healthy Lifestyles: Staying Active and Making Good Food Choices.
Q. What inspired you to choose this topic?
A. It’s hard for all of us to be active and find time for exercise. In my home, we always encourage my brother to exercise and stay active. Exercise has been proven to increase moods, can keep individuals healthy as well as improve stress levels. My brother also struggles with making healthy food choices so we have developed lots of strategies to encourage him to make good decisions and limit consumption of ultraprocessed foods (which are so tempting for everyone!)
Q. Tell us some of the things you will highlight in your presentation.
A. I plan to teach the Y&A the “whys” behind exercise and good nutrition so they will have “buy in” to make good decision going forward. In addition, I will teach them about free apps they can use to help them stay accountable and make good food decisions. Technology can help them choose healthy foods while shopping at the grocery store and even highlight negative additives and ingredients to avoid.
Q. How do you plan to make your presentation engaging?
A. I will build in movement opportunities, lots of participation and hands-on demonstrations. I will also share my favorite snacks.
Thanks, Phoebe. We look forward to seeing you in Orlando!!
