We Learn Together: My Experience with Evelyn

Hi, I’m Saba! I’m 19, a first-year Political Science student from Iran, currently studying
in Istanbul. I’ve always been passionate about volunteering, and over the years I’ve had the
chance to get involved in different projects. Recently, I got to join Inspired to Learn as a peer
tutor, and it’s been such a rewarding experience so far!
For about a month now, I’ve had the absolute joy of working with Evelyn. From the very
first session, it was clear that every student is different, and part of the fun is figuring out what
works best for each one. At first, our lessons were an hour long, but we quickly realized that
Evelyn thrives in shorter, more focused sessions. Now, our classes are just 30 minutes, and
they’re way more productive and enjoyable for both of us. It’s amazing to see how small
adjustments like this can make such a big difference, and it really shows how unique every
student’s learning style is.
Evelyn is the sweetest, most fun, and smartest little girl I’ve ever met. She has such a
bright personality, and even when she gets a bit distracted, she keeps trying and improving in so
many ways. Her progress, her gaining confidence, and hitting little milestones has been so
inspiring to witness. I’ve tutored other students before, but Evelyn has her own spark that makes
every session full of laughter and continued learning. Working with her has also taught me a lot
about inclusive learning and the importance of adapting teaching to meet the needs of every
student, regardless of ability.
This experience keeps reminding me how important it is to be patient, adaptable, and to
celebrate every small success. Tutoring Evelyn hasn’t been just about practicing Math and
English, it has also been about learning from her and making a meaningful connection. Every
day, I’m amazed by her determination, curiosity, and heart, and I feel so lucky to be on this path
with her. I hope that sharing our journey can encourage others to volunteer and support
children who need extra guidance and care. I’m really excited to keep working with her and see
where we go next!
With Love
